Accessibility Policy

Accessibility at Pacific Knit Co.

The team at Pacific Knit Co. are committed to ensuring that our spaces and our products are accessible to everyone who wants to be part of our community. Our staff include multiple neurodivergent and disabled identities, as well as marginalized bodies, genders and sexualities. We recognize the unique perspectives and contributions to the knitting community made by folks from all backgrounds, and we welcome them all in our Doodle Universe.

We know that accessibility includes more than just physical access to a space, and that less visible disabilities are often overlooked and excluded. We are working to change that reality, both within our company and in the knitting community as a whole. On topics where we ourselves do not have lived experience, our policies and accommodation options are guided by those who do have that lived experience. We want to use the privilege of our platform to make positive change that helps everyone.

We recognize that accommodations are not one-size-fits-all and that we won't always be able to predict everything that might be helpful to someone else. But we want to continually do better, so please reach out to our Customer Experience Manager at Grey@PacificKnitCo.com if you notice any oversights, have any concerns or requests, or simply want to chat with us more about our little company.

Pacific Knit Co.'s accessibility considerations include:

  • All of our knitting patterns are gender-neutral and size-inclusive.
  • All of our Doodle Charts in digital format include light and dark inverted options, and are designed in high-contrast greyscale for readability.
  • Every Doodle Collection has at least one option for a digital version of the pattern/charts, so folks can access their purchases on their devices.
  • All of our written content is designed with readability and clarity as a priority, to make it as easy as possible to interact with.
  • We have free patterns, charts, and resources available on our website and in DoodleHQ, as well as lower price digital versions of all our Doodle Collections, to minimize cost barriers. Our patterns are also designed to be re-used (and re-knit) dozens of times, so customers can get more value with each purchase.
  • We do not run external ads in any of our spaces, so there are no visually overstimulating popups or needless movement/flashing on our pages.
  • When we vend at in-person shows, our booths are designed to be ADA compliant and accessible.
  • Attendees to virtual classes are not expected or required to remain on camera during the class.
  • All attendees to virtual classes hosted directly by PKC are welcome to bring a support person with them at no additional cost. You may also bring children with you if you have care-taking responsibilities.
  • All virtual classes hosted directly by PKC will be attended and moderated by a staff member (in addition to Jamie). This may include things such as monitoring the text chat, repeating attendee questions to ensure everyone can hear/understand, ensuring there are pauses and breaks for clarification by facilitator as required, etc.
  • Our video tutorial library (which is currently being filmed) will include permanent subtitles on all videos.

All of our accessibility considerations also extend to the Doodle team, so our employees are also supported and encouraged to work in a way that fits their neurotype, disabilities, and any other accommodation needs that may be relevant. We encourage task sharing, allow team members to choose tasks that best fit their abilities, and mental health days are always allowed.

If there is an accommodation you would like, that you do not see here, please email our Customer Experience Manager at Grey@PacificKnitCo.com to discuss.
